A course in Accountancy serves as a basis for a career in many professional fields, for example, Engineering, Law, Architecture, Medicine, Dentistry or Building Economics.

A basic knowledge of Accountancy gives the necessary background to run one's future business according to sound financial principles.

One may contemplate a career in Accountancy itself, either in the profession-i.e.. preparing, auditing and interpreting the accounts of clients, acting as their financial adviser, etc.-or as a chief accountant, directing the accounting function in an organization.

Whatever your future ambitions might be, the an accounting course from ICB is a valuable introduction to the field of Accountancy.

Management Accounting on the other hand  is the process of identification, measurement, accumulation, analysis, preparation, interpretation and communication of information used by management to plan, evaluate and control within an entity and to assure appropriate use of and accountability for its resources.

Management accounting also comprises the preparation of financial reports for non management groups such as shareholders, creditors, regulatory agencies and tax authorities.

Professional Courses in Financial and Management Accounting

At Johannesburg Polytechnic we endeavour to give you a choice of either concentrating on Financial Accounting or Management Accounting, either way if not sure of what you want to do, you can start with basic book keeping either following the ICB or CAT route. Any way you look at it you can switch with credits to any side of either CIMA or ACCA upon completion of the course.

In order to be accepted in this faculty you must meet the minimum qualifications under each of the professional courses that you endeavour to undertake. Financial and Management Accounting is a numerative field, as such the following minimum qualifications will be accepted:

  • Mathematics at "O" Level - Minimum C grade or 50%

  • English at "O" Level- Minimum C grade or 50%

The minimum qualifications do not in anyway guarantee your entry in to the course of preference. We endeavour to take only the best as such you must be motivated enough to complete these courses.

Our classes are small typically 25 students per class. This gives maximum interaction between the lecturers and the students.

Please note that we only give tuition while exams are entered by the student externally. We will however endeavour to help the students transfer of bank drafts to book for external examinations outside of South Africa (more especially for London based examination bodies).

We are currently offering tuition towards the following Internationally acclaimed courses:
