Pre-Registration

Check from our course catalogue on the left hand side under the various faculties and select the course you want to undertake. Ensure that you qualify to undertake the course in terms of minimum qualifications that you need to register under the course. If you don't have certain qualifications write to us seeking more information and we will be glad to give you the necessary details.

We will send you the provisional student number which you will use to apply online. We will send you a provisional acceptance letter to enable you to apply for a study permit. Step 1 Medical Aid

For All Students Undertaking Courses of 3 Months and Above

To study in South Africa you need to be medically covered for the full duration of your study. According to legislation, the medical aid has to be a South African administered and/or recognized product paid up to 31 December of the year of registration. The Polytechnic advises, amongst other coverage, that the product include provisions for hospitalization, medicines & repatriation of remains.

For Short-term / Occasional / Semester Students

To study in South Africa, you need to purchase a minimum of 6 month medical aid cover; as outlined above. Most insurance companies will refund the unused portion of the medical aid cover. Enquire about this option with the medical aid company as each company has different requirements for refunds.

Step 1 is not required by Refugees, Asylum Seekers and individuals studying 3 months or less.

Step 2, Study Permit

You need a study permit for all courses which are more than 3 months. The following should be submitted to the South African Embassy/Consulate in your country to obtain your Study Permit, in some instances these may vary:

  • A passport valid for not less that 30 days after intended studies

  • Administrative fee of R425 (as at December 2007)

  • Confirmation and proof of payment for the Medical Aid Cover with a South African registered scheme for comprehensive (day to day and hospitalization) cover

  • A cash deposit or a return ticket to country of origin.

NB: Some Nations of African countries are not required to pay this deposit if their Government undertakes, in writing, to cover all costs relating to any repatriation action that may become necessary.

Step 2 is not required by Refugees, Asylum Seekers and for individuals studying 3 months or less.

Categories that Pay International Fees

Everybody else not mentioned above, including but not limited to:

  • SA Taxpayers (I.e. only pay SA Tax. E.g. Contract workers or Temporary residents) The criterion of paying tax is not sufficient for a reduction in international fees
